X MARKS THE SPOT

It looks like there’s a fresh headache for Brisbane hospitality couple Angus and Leah Cattanach and their business partner and DJ, Ayden Sturgess.

The trio, which operates the X Cargo bar and entertainment complex filled with shipping containers in Fortitude Valley, has been hit with a wind-up bid in Brisbane Supreme Court.

Their entity, McLachlan Street Holdings Pty Ltd, was sued last month by an outfit known as Zaval Cleaning Services Pty Ltd.

It’s run by a Colombian bloke named Diego Aristizabal, who also does a bit of tidying up for other well-known Brisbane venues, including Little Valley, Jellyfish, Cha Cha Char and Miss Kay’s.

Angus, who formerly ran the GPO hotel and The Met watering holes in the Valley, didn’t return a call yesterday and we couldn’t reach Leah or Sturgess. No defence has been lodged in the case. Neither Aristizabal, nor his lawyer, called us back either.

The legal dust up comes as Angus and McLachlan Street Holdings face another court battle, as well.

Both he and the company have been sued for alleged damages by Joytree Pty Ltd, a company controlled by Gold Coast couple Brian and Githa Silvester, who run a watch and jewellery distribution business under the banner of WAG International.

Angus lodged a defence in that matter earlier this month.

Leah was also sued personally in November by kitchen equipment rental business Silver Chef, which has since been gobbled up by private equity mob Next Capital. No defence has been filed in the case.

Meanwhile, City Beat has learned that Angus is owed $10,235 from now-defunct Revelry Entertainment, where he formerly served as a director. It was tipped into liquidation last month with more than $176,000 owed to creditors.

G’DAY USA

Several prominent Brisbane business identities were among the elite crowd which gathered in Los Angeles at the weekend for the annual G’Day USA CEO policy roundtable followed by a gala dinner.

Jobs queen Sarina Russo and JLL boss Stephen Conry joined about 30 other high flyers from both sides of the Pacific for the talkfest, including outgoing ambassador Joe Hockey, Australia Industry Group chief Innes Willox, Qantas VP Steve Thompson and billionaire philanthropist Francine LeFrak.

“Francine must have sung ‘I Still Call Australia Home’ with great gusto because Joe Hockey asked her to join Sarina at a US-Australia CEO Forum held at Walt Disney Studio,’’ one source told us.

The fun and games didn’t end there, with Sarina and her pals then making with their way to the Grammy Awards yesterday as part of a Young Presidents’ Organisation business networking event.

Look for Sarina and LeFrak to head Down Under soon and tour four states as part of a delegation from the

Women’s Leadership Board, part of Harvard’s Kennedy School.

LeFrak is an award-winning theatrical, television and film producer who launched the Same Sky foundation in 2008.

It started in genocide-scarred Rwanda to provide jobs and income to HIV-positive women in poor villages through a socially-conscious jewellery line but has since spread to the US as well.

MEGXIT TIP OFF

It all makes sense now.

The world was shocked this month when Prince Harry and Meghan revealed their plans to bail out of the House of Windsor.

But Brisbane legal eagle Nicole Murdoch says the signs of an impending break up were clearly visible as long ago as last June.

That’s when the formerly royal couple filed a slew of trademark applications in the UK to legally protect the “Sussex Royal’’ brand on more than 100 items, especially clothing.

Murdoch, an intellectual property and trademarks lawyer, described it as clearly “a strategic move’’.

“It happened in the middle of last year so it’s not some decision the pair made during their Christmas holidays,’’ she said.
