REALITY SHOW

A BRISBANE riverfront mansion full of loud and often drunk young Europeans partying virtually non-stop for a reality television show.

What could possibly go wrong?

Plenty, if you ask appalled residents in Fig Tree Pocket.

They fear their quiet acreage neighbourhood in the western suburb will be spoiled by the noise and wild hijinks, not to mention sticky beakers and party crashers.

News emerged last week that a French production company will begin shooting Les Ch’tis (Party Workers in Oz) next month and continue filming through December.

City Beat can now reveal the show will be filmed in the luxurious seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom spread on Needham St owned by Peter Bond, the founder of now-failed Linc Energy.

It’s understood that eight to 10 partygoers from France and Belgium will occupy the home known as Rivergum Retreat, with the show documenting their attempts to find work and adapt to the Australian way of life.

Previous seasons of the show have been filmed in the hard-partying enclaves of Ibiza, Mykonos and Hollywood so adding Fig Tree Pocket to that list seems a tad incongruous.

If video from past episodes is any indication, the kids will be having a pretty wild time.

Scantily clad contestants are seen whooping it up as they wear coloured wigs, knock back drinks and slide down stair banisters or across the floor.

One nearby homeowner said yesterday that she and other residents had already raised concerns with the Brisbane City Council and the show’s producers.

“I just hope they’re going to have plenty of security,’’ she said.

SHAKEN AND STIRRED

BOND, who presided over the $300 million-plus collapse of Linc last year, declined to comment when City Beat rang yesterday.

“I don’t know what’s going on. Sorry, I can’t help you mate,’’ he said before hanging up on your diarist.

It’s not clear how much Bond will be pocketing from the deal but sources say another homeowner in Pullenvale recently knocked back a $100,000 offer for use of their property.

You can only imagine how big the security bond (so to speak) would be for damages!

Perched on a 1.2ha block fronting the Brisbane River, Bond’s dwelling features a heated pool, tennis court, 12-seat cinema, wine cellar, gym and outdoor teppanyaki bar.

FIGHTING CHARGES

WHATEVER money Bond makes from renting out the place will probably go straight into his legal defence fund.

He and other company top guns are currently fighting charges that Linc’s underground coal gasification project near Chinchilla contaminated more than 175sq km of farmland.

The trial is scheduled to kick off on Monday.

Bond has already suffered a legal setback when he lost an appeal in August against an order to rehabilitate polluted soils.

The Environmental Protection Order was issued mid-2015 but Bond appealed against it in the Planning and Environment Court in March.

City Beat spies tell us Bond now plans to seek leave to have the matter heard before the High Court.

The Linc disaster prompted the Queensland Government to ban underground coal gasification last year.
