Pure Hydrogen hands over Taurus hydrogen fuel cell prime mover to Barwon Water
First fully registered hydrogen prime mover in Australia
The delivery supports Barwon Water’s goal to achieve net zero emissions by 2030
Special report: Following a 2024 sales agreement, Pure Hydrogen has completed the handover of a Taurus hydrogen fuel cell prime mover to Barwon Water, Victoria’s largest regional urban water corporation.
The Taurus hydrogen fuel cell (HFC) prime mover was handed over at Barwon Water’s facility in Geelong last week, marking a significant milestone as the first fully registered Vehicle Type Approved hydrogen prime mover in Australia.
It is also the first hydrogen-powered truck to be delivered to a Victorian Government agency and will play a key role in Barwon Water’s decarbonisation strategy to achieve net zero emissions.
The vehicle has an estimated life of 20 years, offering a long-term, zero-emission alternative to traditional diesel trucks.
As part of the 2024 sales arrangement, Pure Hydrogen Corporation (ASX:PH2) will provide ongoing service, maintenance and spare parts support for an initial term of eight years.
Backs the business vision
The latest Taurus delivery follows the handover of Australia’s first hydrogen fuel-cell powered rear-loading waste collection truck to Solo Resource Recovery in February this year.
That vehicle also received formal approval from regulators in accordance with Australian Design Rules (ADR), allowing for additional vehicles of its type manufactured by PH2 to be registered in Australia.
PH2 believes the Taurus handover reflects the company’s commercial strategy to deliver end-to-end mobility solutions to customers across transport, logistics, construction and government.
The company is also now exploring new partnership opportunities in Australia and internationally as it builds a growing pipeline of zero-emission vehicles.
“This is a tangible demonstration of how hydrogen transport can be integrated into the decarbonisation efforts of major utility providers today, not just in the future,” PH2 managing director Scott Brown said.
“Alongside the recent delivery of Australia’s first HFC waste collection vehicle to Solo Resource Recovery, the latest Taurus sale demonstrates the application of Pure’s zero emissions technology across key public infrastructure sectors.”
Major leap for Aussie hydrogen transport
Brown said the delivery marks an important step for hydrogen transport in Australia.
“Barwon Water is leading by example and we’re proud to support their initial steps in the energy transition with our technology,” he said.
“We’re excited about what lies ahead as more organisations move from pilot concepts to practical, scalable deployments.”
