Queensland startup CartonCloud delivers on logistics challenge

SOLVING his freight company’s own logistical challenges has spun into a dynamic tech startup for Vincent Fletcher, with revenue on track to double within the next six months.

The founder and chief executive of Gold Coast startup CartonCloud, Mr Fletcher was struggling with the challenges of operating a Sydney-based freight company when he began creating software to help stem the issues.

“Basically we built the system to solve our problems, and after using it ourselves for about two-and-a-half years we began to sell to others,” he said.

Mr Fletcher said he realised the potential the software had, and chose to sell up and relocate to the Gold Coast to launch CartonCloud.

The startup has grown to 21 employees, with its subscription model mostly targeted at small and medium businesses.

“A lot of (other systems) tend to focus on large enterprises, and clients can’t find software that’s at a price point they can afford, and they also tend to be really complicated to use.”

Though most of the company’s current clients are based in Australia and New Zealand, CartonCloud has struck a deal with global giant DHL to use its software in Vietnam and Singapore.

“They’re not a typical client of ours, but it happened to work for them,” he said.

Mr Fletcher said client numbers had climbed about 40 per cent on this time last year, while revenue had almost doubled in 12 months.

CartonCloud is a finalist in this year’s Telstra Queensland Business Awards, of which The Courier-Mail is media partner.

The Queensland winners will be announced at a gala dinner on July 19.
