Business is slowly returning to normal across southeast Queensland despite the ongoing flood threat.
While large parts of the region remain under flood watch, and thousands still await the restoration of their power, leading supermarkets Coles and Woolworths, as well as Bunnings Hardware stores and shopping centres, continue to reopen.
As of Monday many locations had resumed trading, though those in the flood impact zone are still be assessed.
Many IGA Supermarkets resumed trading across the weekend.
Some shopping centres across the southeast that reopened from Saturday include Booval Fair Shopping Centre, Chatswood Central Shopping Centre, Mt Gravatt Plaza, and Calamvale Central.
On Brisbane’s northside, Toowong Village reopened, along with Stafford City Shopping Centre, Carseldine Central, Strathpine Centre, and MarketPlace Warner.
Customers are still advised to check individual stores for updates as trading hours and opening dates are varied.
Several shopping centres indicated they would open on Sunday including Morayfield Shopping Centre, Riverlink, Kenmore Village, and Grand Plaza.
Sage and Olive Café worker Vipanpreet Kaur said it had been “hectic” past few days leading up to the weather event.
“From when we opened, we didn’t even have time to get the coffee machine running before people started looking to come in,” she said.
Ms Kaur said the family-run cafe was “super confused” by advice from council and government officials about whether or not they could open again.
A McDonald’s Australia spokesperson said on Saturday they were reopening some of their restaurants in southeast Queensland where safe to do so.
A full list of stores and their opening status is now available on the McDonald’s website.
Bunnings trading hours will vary, with some in heavily impacted regions closed and others with reduced hours. A spokeswoman on Saturday said opening decisions would be made based on the safety of staff and customers.
Harvey Norman stores across Brisbane and the Gold Coast remained closed across the weekend.
A Domino’s spokesperson confirmed that many of their stores in southeast Queensland and Northern New South Wales would reopen.
An Uber spokesman said the safety of everyone on the platform is their top priority.
