A new fitness studio that combines the benefits of yoga, pilates and body tone into one circuit-based 45-minute workout has arrived in Brisbane.

Fitness juggernaut F45 recently launched FS8 with three-time world surfing champion Mick Fanning the ambassador for the multi-modality workout studio.

The owners of three Brisbane F45 franchises, Nina and Andrew Woodhouse, have just opened the FS8 flagship studio on the ground floor of 26 Commercial Road, Newstead.

It is the first studio of its kind in Brisbane one of eight in currently Australia.

A further 50 flagship studios are expected to open throughout Victoria, NSW, Queensland, Western Australia and South Australia in 2021.

Fanning is set to soon open his own studio in Byron Bay.

Nina Woodhouse said their search for a 200sq m square shaped space in Newstead was “challenging”.

“We looked at a few spaces in the area and this one was the one that we thought would work really well. We just needed to move a wall to make the space suitable,” she said.

After an extensive makeover they moved into the 396sq m tenancy which was previously occupied by property agency Blue Commercial. The deal was struck by Your Commercial’s Jayde Mavrik.

Ms Woodhouse said they have had an F45 studio in Newstead and believed suburb was ripe for the FS8 concept.

“We’ve been in Newstead for six years and we’ve done a lot research into the area,” she said.

“We needed to be in a central area to appeal to the market because parking here is terrible. It will be a lot easier for people to stay committed to their goals and accountable who don’t have to worry about parking to try to get to the studio which take a lot stress out of it.”

FS8 combines the fitness benefits of yoga and pilates but it aims to have a more innovative approach than is often available at local gyms. Billed as a trailblazer in the “wellness space” rather than pure fitness, FS8 draws from a library of 2,800 exercises that create a varied full-body workout in a results-based and community-oriented program.

However, this workout is less focused on the meditation and holistic factors that many come to enjoy about yoga practice.

Its name stems from ‘F’ stands for functional (because every element has been designed to work together), the ‘S’ is for style (remixing pilates, yoga and tone in a new way) and the ‘8’ represents the eight key modalities that form the core of FS8.

Ms Mavrik said the Woodhouses completed a full refurbishment of the office that was at 26 Commercial Road which included installing state-of-the-art equipment, bathrooms, change rooms and blow bar.

“Gyms are saturating the market in the area at the moment, but FS8 will be the first of it’s kind and has little to no competitors at the moment,” she said.

“They have the whole ground floor except a cafe and at this stage there is only one tenancy left in the building.”
