The takeaway business in Ferry St was a popular venue in the city, with dozens sharing their dismay at the loss of the business.

The announcement was posted to the Facebook page of the business this week.

“It’s with a heavy heart that this is my last post,” it read.

“Unfortunately I have tried my hardest to stay open as long as I can but today is the day Great Ozzie Bites is closed for good.

“Thank you very much for everyone’s loyalty over the years and my staff for everything they have done.”

It was unclear why the business had closed its doors.

Lou Bryant said she was “so sorry to hear this”.

“You guys were consistently the best and so lovely, always.”

Narelle Smith said the business had served the best gluten free fish and chips she had ever had.

“Truly a loss,” she wrote.

“Amazing business with the best service.”

The closure of the business comes after Golden Chicken also closed its doors in Maryborough at the end of 2022.

However, new businesses have been opened, including 1920s Great Gatsby-themed restaurant La Familia, in Kent St, along with Not Another Coffee Shop in Lennox St.
