A healthy food drive-through that opened on one of Brisbane’s busiest commuter roads less than a year ago has closed its doors.
Marketcart, on Gympie Rd in Kedron in Brisbane’s north, opened in February last year but closed its doors before Christmas.
Their other two stores, at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in Herston, and on campus at the University of Queensland remain trading Monday to Friday.
The Kedron store was offering fresh-made grab-and-go meals all for under $15 including locally-roasted coffee from Fortitude Valley’s Bear Bones Coffee and local ingredients in their smoothie, salad, sandwich, hot foods and desserts.
The local hospitality industry has been hit hard by the skyrocketing cost of living and interest-rate hikes.
In December the site was offered for sale or lease by the owner.
The advertisement states that the owner is “motivated” and “seeking quality tenant and will consider all serious offers”.
The site, next to the Kedron Car Centre car-sales yard, includes a 71 sqm “fast-turnover kitchen” and an alfresco covered deck, described as near-new purpose-built “state-of-the-art facility” with 75,000-plus cars passing the 817 sqm inbound corner site daily.
The Courier-Mail has contacted Marketcart founders Andrew and Andrea Harcourt for comment.
Andrew Harcourt’s sole-owned company A&A Harcourt Investments Pty Ltd bought the site for $2.2m in April 2023.
Mr Harcourt is 54 years old and is from Tallebudgera in the Gold Coast hinterland, according to company records.
Mr and Mrs Harcourt co-own a historic Queenslander house in Hamilton overlooking the Brisbane River.
