Intensive Events which is behind Lunar Electric Music Festival on Gold Coast goes into liquidation

The promotion company behind a Gold Coast music festival which was `rescheduled’ two weeks before the event was to be held in February has now gone into liquidation.

An events company that promised to bring some of the world’s hottest acts to the Gold Coast has collapsed owing creditors an unknown amount.

Liquidator Stephen Earel, of Cor Cordis, has been appointed to Intensive Events after contractor TFH Hire, which provides fencing, portable toilets and other infrastructure for events, applied to the Queensland Supreme Court for the company to be wound up.

Intensive Events was behind one of Australia’s largest electronic dance music events – the Lunar Electric Music Festival – which “rescheduled” their Gold Coast event in February, two weeks before the opening act was due to hit the stage, after failing to secure a venue or some of its big-name performers.

Organisers had promised to bring global superstars – including Grammy-winning Doja Cat 6ix9ine and Russ Millions – to Doug Jennings Park at The Spit on March 11, but ticketholders became concerned after no line-up was announced.

However, after the Gold Coast Bulletin reported the doubts over the festival, organisers told ticketholders the electronic dance music and hip-hop festival would instead be held in September.

“Unfortunately we have had to make the difficult decision to postpone the March Lunar Electric tour until September 2023,’ Lunar Electric festival organisers wrote.

“We want to ensure we deliver the best line up and experience for you all and this just couldn’t be achieved at this time.

“We apologise for the delay in communicating this to you and hope you’ll be there with us come September for what is going to be one huge Lunar Electric tour!”

But no posts have been made to the festival’s social channels since and the Lunar Electric website has been taken down.

Intensive Events is directed by Shaun Dunn, 46, and Simon Leigh, 59, who both have home addresses listed with ASIC on the Gold Coast and in Port Macquarie in NSW.

It also trades as Intensive Entertainment, Inside Out Fest and Inside Out Festival

Mr Earel said he has started his investigations into the company’s failure.

“Cor Cordis will now assess the company’s financials, realise any available company assets, and conduct investigations into any potential claims,” he said.

“A detailed report will be provided to creditors and stakeholders in due course. An email address for customers and other stakeholders has been set up for all inquiries.”

The Lunar Electric Music Festival on the Gold Coast attracted up to 8000 revellers in March 2021 and the event was also held in Sydney.

However, in December 2021 the Lunar Electric Festival at Newcastle was cancelled in Newcastle by a NSW Health order due to the Omicron wave.

In February, 2022 promoters cancelled the Melbourne and Adelaide legs and pushed the Sydney and Gold Coast events forward and were held in June that year.
