Armed with a funky colourful fit-out, one of the world’s largest burger chains will officially open its doors on Wednesday morning in the heart of the Brisbane CBD.
Wendy’s flagship quick service restaurant is a first for Brisbane and the second in Australia after Surfers Paradise, which opened at the start of the year.
The restaurant, off the Queen Street Mall and overlooking King George Square, will welcome guests with a kinetic blue exterior that leads into a two-level dining experience named the ‘Haus of Wendy’ – a playful nod to the restaurant’s bold design and personality.
The flagship eatery spans two levels with capacity for 130 diners. It has an open-air ground floor that leads down to an expansive lower level with red and blue colours dominating.
Highlights include a handpainted street-art mural featuring quintessential Brisbane landmarks, bespoke wall panelling inspired by Wendy’s red braids and the Haus Feed – giving guests the chance to share their experience on in-store social media screens.
The colour blue is a nod to the Wendy’s iconic Frosty drink. It features in a handmade Bow Wall installation by Brisbane artist Rachel Burke, inspired by Wendy’s trademark pigtails and crafted from recycled materials, along with a Frosty-inspired lounge area and interactive photo booth.
“This flagship represents everything the Wendy’s brand stands for – fresh food and bold personality,” said Corina Black, chief marketing officer, Wendy’s Australia and New Zealand.
“Brisbane’s vibrant energy is a natural fit for Wendy, and we’re proud to contribute to the city’s reputation as a destination for food, culture and creativity.”
The opening signals the next step in the brand’s plan to open 200 restaurants nationwide over the next decade.
Renowned for its square burger patties the chain says it only offers fresh beef and chicken – not processed – and its cheese sauce is made on the Gold Coast. Its Frosty is made from grass fed dairy.
In its opening week Brisbane Wendy’s expects to serve up 3 tonnes of Frosty, almost 25,000 beef patties, 19,000 buns of all sizes and about 2 tonnes of fries.
Richard Wallis, president Flynn Group Asia Pacific said its much more than another restaurant launch.
“It’s a significant milestone in Wendy’s Australian journey, and a statement of confidence in
both our long-term growth plans and Brisbane’s vibrant city centre,” he said.
“The ‘Haus of Wendy’ reflects the investment, innovation and ambition we’re bringing to this market.”
