One of Australia’s leading beef producers and feedlot operators has paid more than $40m for a central Queensland cattle station adjoining their major aggregation.

Family-owned Camm Agricultural Group beat a host of corporate and local families to Myra, a 14,574ha breeding, backgrounding and finishing property 84km west of Moranbah in the Isaac region.

The property was owned by the Jones family, who over the years improved the station, and it will link into Camm Agricultural’s adjoining 22,500ha Nungaroo and Marracoonda aggregation, bringing their footprint in the area to more than 37,000ha.

LAWD agent Grant Veivers, who marketed the property with Kennedy Livestock, said Myra’s carrying capacity was about 4500 adult equivalents.

In addition to annual rainfall of 587mm, Myra has an abundance of natural water resources including dual frontage to the Myra, Sullivan and Nibbereena Creeks, plus nine catchment dams equipped with extensive water reticulation infrastructure, as well as numerous waterholes.

“Myra offers the full package – extensive permanent water, established productive pastures and excellent infrastructure, making it a powerhouse property in a region renowned for its quality cattle,” he said.

Myra was sold less than three months after going on the market.

Camm Agricultural Group formally started operating in 1994, however the Camm family’s association and involvement with Australia’s cropping and beef industries goes back four generations.

The current group structure was developed when founders David and Judith Camm, supported by their children, commenced the current business model outside of their extended family agricultural operations.

The group’s extensive feedlot operation, based in southern Queensland, is one of the oldest continual feeding operations in Australia, dating back to its establishment by the Camm family in 1972.

Forming a core component of the business’s integrated operations is the award-winning 21,000 SCU (Standard cattle Unit) ‘Wonga Plains’ feedlot.

Camm Agricultural has also grown into one of the major beef producing businesses in Australia, operating a rural land portfolio of high-grade assets covering more than 450,000ha and turning off more than 80,000 head a year.
