Trenert reveals plans for a $1.2b mixed use precinct in the Olympic hub

Plans have been revealed for a $1.2bn world-class, mixed-use development project in the heart of the Olympic precinct.
Developer Trenert’s plan for the 1ha site at Stanley St, Woolloongabba, seeks to leverage the Queensland Government’s aspirations for the Gabba Olympic precinct with the heritage-listed Railway Hotel – which last operated as the Chalk Hotel eight years ago – at the centrepiece of plans that transform almost an entire block.
Managing partner Peter Priest said the project team plans to deliver the project in time for Brisbane 2032.
“The Government investment in the Gabba stadium and Cross River Rail are the catalysts for the transformation of the Gabba, and this is an investment in that vision’” he said.
“We’re looking forward to delivering much needed housing as part of the Gabba transformation, putting homes adjacent to transport infrastructure and creating a vibrant 24-
hour precinct.”
Plans include diverse range of housing, including residential apartments and affordable housing to be delivered in partnership with a community housing provider.
Also included are a five-star hotel, an office tower and a retail plaza.
The design proposes 200,000sq m of gross building area delivered by 2030 with an annualised employment impact of 706 full-time workers.
Deputy Premier, Minister for State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning and Minister Assisting the Premier on Olympics Infrastructure Steven Miles said the proposed development would contribute to Government’s vision for the Gabba.
“The Government’s aim is to transform the Gabba precinct into a vibrant mixed-use hub, with access to world-class public transport as well as improved public spaces to encourage more visitors to the area,” he said.
“This sort of private sector investment is an important part of delivering on that vision.
“Urban renewal of the Gabba precinct can be an obvious Olympic legacy and this proposal has the opportunity to address a clear need for greater housing affordability in the inner city.”
The Stanley St precinct earmarked for renewal presently contains many empty shopfront tenancies and had been the subject of several development proposals in the past decade that have not materialised.
