A RESIDENTIAL development that will cater for everyone from toddlers to the elderly and those with disabilities in a new “whole-of-life” precinct has been given the green light.
Developer Traders in Purple has secured council approval for the two-building Wilshire Village development at 1A Northmore St, Mitchelton, which will be a retirement village, residential apartment building, child care centre, along with a disability respite care centre.
It will be adjacent to the Brookside Shopping Centre and a future residential high-care facility to be delivered by Japara.
Traders in Purple chief executive Brett Robinson said the precinct will be a showcase development in Brisbane, providing whole-of-life accommodation and care services.
“This purpose-built development is a first in Brisbane. It has been our vision for some time that we wanted to better assist those that are most vulnerable in our community,” he said.
“There was immense effort put into the planning of this development to significantly improve the quality of life for our future residents.”
Designed by Arkhefield, the 100 retirement apartments will be within a 10-storey building comprising independent living and assisted living apartments.
The residential building will comprise of 90 owner-occupier apartments, with larger style two and three-bedroom apartments with expansive views across Kedron Brook to Teralba Park.
There will also be a disability respite centre and child care centre across the two buildings.
“Despite the amount of development which has gone on in Brisbane in recent years there is an absence of new purpose-built disability accommodation that meets NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) requirements,” Mr Robinson said.
“This project provides 90 dwelling units within the multi-dwelling component, out of which 14 units (15 per cent) have been designed to a Platinum Level as per the Livable Housing Australia Guidelines.
“These units will be retained by Traders in Purple and managed by Life Without Barriers, for the provision of specialist disability accommodation under the recently introduced National Disability Insurance Scheme.
“Life Without Barriers will also manage the disability respite centre that will provide much needed services and facilities to the wider community.”
