The Calile hotel welcomes luxury fashion brands to Fortitude Valley

SOME of the world’s top indepedent fashion and lifestyle brands have found a new home for flagship stores in Brisbane’s classiest fashion precinct.

BRISBANE’S renowned Fortitude Valley fashion precinct will become more dressed up with a band of new brands set to open their Queensland flagship stores in the retail high street.

The entire ground floor of The Calile hotel on James St has secured some of Australia’s most exclusive independent fashion brands despite the sector suffering from the online onslaught.

Major commitments include Dion Lee, Camilla & Marc, sustainable organic cotton favourite Bassike, Sydney leisure brand success story Venroy, Bec & Bridge, Wolfe & Ordnance, Andronis, Mister Zimi, Calexico Man. and Dutch lingerie brand Love Stories.

The leases were struck by Chester Real Estate’s Greer Gittoes and Michael Platsis in 3000sq m of quality space under the 175-room boutique hotel developed by Calile Malouf Investments (CMI).

Ms Gittoes said the precommitments were “incredibly encouraging”.

“There’s a lot of negativity over the major departments stores and Amazon coming here so it’s a positive story in this climate,” she said.

“James St appears to be strengthening and is largely unaffected by these other factors as demand for space continues to increase.”

The Richards & Spence Architects designed hotel will be operated by the Australian-based TFE Hotels and is set open in Spring.

The shops are a minimum 5m in height and framed by a suspended concrete slab housing a hanging garden.

The podium level will be occupied by a top tier Australian restaurant and a wellness centre.

It is understood the leasing rates were some of the highest in the James St with minimal incentives.

Fashion brand Wolfe & Ordnance relocated from Sydney to a temporary store in James St in readiness for the development.

“It’s always good to be near strong retailers because it creates a shopping destination and makes the precinct come alive,” owner Dani Odgers said.

Jess Mirabito, 19, will be working at the new Wolfe & Ordnance boutique. “It’s really convenient and it’s great with the restaurants and everything; it’ll encourage me to shop more,” she said.
