THEY are the only places in a parched Western Downs township where you can get a drink.
And now they’re on the market.
The Brauer family is selling its historic Commercial Hotel and their hotel/motel in Tara — home to just over 2000 people and about 300km west of Brisbane.
Pelathon Management has paid $8.5 million for the freehold and going concern of a FNQ hotel
Savills Hotels’ Leon Alaban, Christian Tsalikis, and Joseph Ganim are selling the properties in one line but refused to reveal a potential price tag for the freehold and leasehold assets.
Mr Ganim said he expected strong interest because they were the only pubs in Tara.
“The opportunity is suited to an owner operator, however the Commercial Hotel’s trade has the ability to support a management team, opening up the opportunity to a wider market,” he said.
Owned and operated by the Brauer family for 13 years the 100-year-old plus Federation-style Commercial Hotel is on a 2017sq m site and has a public bar, restaurant, gaming, TAB and Keno as well as a drive through bottle shop. It has 13 hotel rooms, six self-contained cabins and a three-bedroom managers flat.
The Tara Hotel Motel, which is closed, sits on a 2.79ha site and has 25 motel rooms of which six have been recently refurbished by the owners who have owned it for two years. It is being sold with four gaming authorities.
Mr Tsalikis said the hotels offered plenty of upside.
“There is an opportunity for a new buyer to capitalise on the value-add opportunities with the land size obviously providing plenty of upside potential,” he said.
