NEWS Corp Australia’s groundbreaking master plan for its long-term Bowen Hills home is set to be released to the market.
The Millennium Square project, which is being led by PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Real Estate, will launch the media group’s Queensland operations well into the 21st century.
News Corp Australia will this month release its plans as it starts the process to secure a development partner for the two-stage “city within a city” precinct on its 4ha inner Brisbane site.
The master plan will include a state-of the art multimedia hub, residential towers, destinational retail, lifestyle and entertainment facilities, public gardens and all linked to a redeveloped Bowen Hills train station.
News Corp Australia managing director QLD and NT Jason Scott said The Courier-Mail had been serving the people of Queensland since 1846 and from its current Bowen Hills site for about 50 years.
“Bowen Hills is a Priority Development Area, and as a key stakeholder in this community, we’d love to have a say in what the Bowen Hills of tomorrow might look like.” he said.
“Being part of a development that delivers Brisbane a world-class multimedia hub is really exciting.”
The first stage, which could start construction by the end of next year, is a world-class commercial office tower that will house News Corp businesses including The Courier-Mail, The Sunday Mail, The Australian, Quest, News Regional Media and Sky News.
The tower will form part of a media hub, not only for its News Corp’s operations, but also for other local and national leading innovative digital, technology, media and new knowledge companies.
The second stage of the development is forecast to start in 2021-2022 and will feature a hotel, seven apartment towers, a subterranean retail centre anchored by a full line supermarket and department store along with a cinema, restaurants and speciality stores.
PwC Real Estate managing director Robert Cavallucci said the landmark project would create a new home for News Corp businesses and secure the company’s long-term future in Bowen Hills while providing the catalyst for the regeneration and urban renewal of the suburb.
“The expression of interest process that is about to commence will secure the right development partner for News Corp Australia to bring this vision to a reality,” he said.
“It will provide a great opportunity to participate in the development of Brisbane’s most significant transit-oriented development.”
