B. Lucky & Sons highlights wave of confidence in Fortitude Valley

THE exterior looks like a pawn shop, but the interior of this new bar in Fortitude Valley offers something else entirely – think arcade games, a cocktail bar and quirky collectables to be won – and it’s now open to the public.

A NATIONAL hospitality group has backed the continuing entertainment evolution of Fortitude Valley with a new gamers-focused retro bar.

Funlab Group, which two years ago opened Holey Moley Golf Club in an old church in the Valley, has opened the doors to B. Lucky & Sons in a 600sq m space on the ground floor of the TC Beirne building between Brunswick Mall and Chinatown Mall.

Described as a grown-ups’ playground, B. Lucky & Sons is part of the Valley’s entertainment renaissance spearheaded by a growing population and the 3300-capacity Fortitude Valley Music Hall under construction on Brunswick Mall.

Funlab Group managing director Michael Schreiber said the Valley had been through “a lot of ups and downs”.

“We believe strongly in the long-term future of Fortitude Valley. You don’t need to be a genius to understand the regeneration of the Valley is a major movement for Brisbane,” he said.

“It’s book-ended by some world-class developments and it’s only a matter of time until the whole Valley is kicking major goals — not scrubbed clean to a point of being soulless — but to where it is better balanced for all concerned.”

Funlab has a seven-year lease with an option on the property after a deal struck by Chesters Real Estate’s Greer Gittoes.

Patrons enter B. Lucky & Sons through a pawn shop facade and into a gamers hall and cocktail bar.

They can play a range of arcade games including The Walking Dead, Monster Drop, Mario Kart and Roller Fortune. Patrons also have the chance to win quirky collectables, while the food and drinks menu reflects as jumble of cultures.

Mr Schreiber described the position of the bar between Brunswick Mall and Chinatown Mall as perfect.

“When you understand the concept of B. Lucky, that it’s a mash up of east meets west, the position is exactly what we needed,” he said.

“Some may think we created the concept to pay tribute to the location, but no, it was a case of the stars aligning; it was serendipity in action.”
