Granddad Jack’s sells its Albion distillery and will open up in Copenhagen

A popular gin distillery in Brisbane’s inner north has been sold as the family company behind it shifts its focus to Europe.

A popular gin distillery in Brisbane’s inner north has been sold as the family company focuses on Europe.

The Granddad Jack’s Craft distillery in Albion will change hands in July with the company seeking to open its first European Granddad Jack’s Bar Experience in Copenhagen within the next six to 12 months, in a joint venture with its Danish distributor, Gin Maestro.

They are currently in the process of finding their second European site to open in 2025.

Granddad Jack’s chief executive and co-founder David Ridden said with their export business growing across Europe and Asia, they decided to sell our Brisbane location to focus on Europe.

“Out of our three venues, this has been the toughest one for us to manage, and we need to make tough decisions to continue growing our brand,” he said.

Granddad Jack’s creates craft spirits & liqueurs and was founded in 2017, Its first distillery located on the Gold Coast and it also has a bar experience at Newcastle in NSW, in January 2024.

Over the last few years, they have been recognised as the leading super-premium craft spirit

brand in Australia, exporting their spirits to more than nine countries.

Mr Ridden said they had been in Brisbane for three years.

“We haven’t ruled out returning to Brisbane in the future to open a Granddad’s Bar like the one we have in Newcastle, but right now, we are committed to growing our business internationally,” Mr Ridden.

Granddad Jack’s Craft Distillery Brisbane will close on Saturday, 6 July.
