Eat Street looks at reopening date after KombiAlley Drive-Thru Dessert Festival

After it finishes up its successful drive-through dessert festival this weekend, one of Brisbane’s most popular food and entertainment destinations is planning its reopening after it was smashed by COVID-19.

Brisbane’s Eat Street markets is working towards reopening after closing earlier this year in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Hamilton Northshore markets has operated a KombiAlley Drive-Thru Dessert Festival over the school holidays and Eat Street director John Stainton said they remained unsure about a reopening date.

“At the moment we’ve configured the place for a drive through situation and then we will be reconfiguring it so it will be a little while before we can make a decision on how we can reopen,” he said.

“The drive-through finishes this weekend and then we have to find out what we can do and what we can’t do and we’re just not quite up to it yet. We have not made a decision on a reopening date yet.”

The popular weekend food and drink destination has been closed since mid-March, putting the future of the market and its 65 store holders in doubt.

Mr Stainton said the market’s three-week drive-through, which will close on Sunday, has been very successful.

However, he said there will be further discussions with the Brisbane City Council and storeholders before any full reopening date is confirmed.

“People understand. It’s been difficult time with covid and people have been very understanding because we are dealing with serious health issues,” he said.

“So as soon as the drive through ends this weekend we will readdress the situation of going forward.”
