McDonald's acquired a 4455sq m site from Peet Limited to build a 498sq m signature restaurant with drive-through which is due to open in December.

The new restaurant is expected to hire 100 people, adding to a wave of more than 550 local jobs that have been created by early commercial buy-in at Flagstone in the Logan region south of Brisbane.

Peet chief executive Brendan Gore said commercial take up at Flagstone was running well ahead of targets.

“Flagstone is one of the biggest greenfield residential developments in Australia and major retailers can see the long-term value in a development of this scale so they are keen to establish an early presence,” he said.

“McDonald’s is renowned for the great work it does to support local communities so we are delighted to welcome them to Flagstone alongside other great brands like Coles, IGA, Dominos, BWS, Chemist Warehouse, Vet Love and Snap Fitness.

“For the 7000 people who already live at Flagstone, this is a huge convenience and a great step forward.”

McDonald’s Head of Property in Queensland Darren Henry said it will be one of eight restaurants opened in Queensland this year.

“We’re a customer-driven business everything — from the food we serve, to the design and facilities in our restaurants — is in response to their needs and is focused on providing the best possible dining experience,” he said.

“Along with our famous burgers and fries, the restaurant will include a dual lane drive-through, serve quality, barista made McCafe coffee, and provide a PlayPlace for the kids.”

More than 17ha of commercial land has been snapped up in Flagstone, mostly by leading retail brands. Another 2.7ha is currently on the market or under contract.

An IGA-anchored shopping centre, health centre and childcare facility have opened this year. Coles is currently building a second shopping centre on a 1.8ha site next to McDonald’s and additional lots have been sold for automotive/light commercial uses and a tavern.

Flagstone’s first commercial precinct defines the entrance to the future CBD, which is expected to generate a billion dollars in commercial construction — with 126ha of shops, offices, light industry and plans for a future hospital, tertiary campus and train station.

The city centre will service the Greater Flagstone Priority Development Area and a projected regional population of 120,000 people by 2045.
