WITH the Brisbane apartment market still coping with oversupply issues the Melbourne-based owner of one of the most prominent Fortitude Valley development sites has quietly asked for DA extension.

With the current DA on the Brunswick Central site expiring at the end of the year Accord Property Group, through its subsidiary Brunswick Ivory Pty Ltd, has asked for an extension for its Brisbane Towers project until the end of 2023.

The property has approval for a 525 apartments and 3000sq m of retail for the 421 Brunswick St site.

In early 2016 David Devine’s Metro sold the site for about $35 million to Accord having optioned up the property from the Power family in 2014 for a similar price.

Accord, founded by Ross Clarke and Scott McVilly, cited the softness of the inner city apartments market and a tight lending regime for its four-year extension application.

The Harry Marks Award for Sustainable Architecture went to 25 King by Bates Smart, which also received the Beatrice Hutton Award for Commercial Architecture.

The jury said 25 King Street was “a potential catalyst for positive change within the Queensland building design discourse. A restrained glazed rectilinear form of 10 levels with basement belies the importance of the structural resolution within adopting an all timber structural system, demonstrating a sustainable and viable alternative to established construction methodologies of steel and concrete.”

Australia's tallest engineered timber building, 25 King Street, by Bates Smart won the Harry Marls award for sustainable architecture.
