SILVERSTONE Developments has snapped up a heritage-listed Fortitude Valley church built almost 130 years ago.

The restored and modified former Methodist church at 116 Brookes St, with an award-winning glass box office extension, was sold by CBRE’s Darren Collins and Tom O’Driscoll for $2.6 million.

The Gothic-inspired church was designed by George Simkin and built from 1887 to 1888 by Blair Cunningham.

Silverstone managing director Troy Daffy said it was a unique investment.

“We bought it because it’s very good value and it’s a beautiful, amazing building in really good condition,” he said.

“It’s in Fortitude Valley and it’s something we will keep indefinitely. It’s a nice thing to pass down to the kids.”

The property was previously owned by James Russell Architects who redesigned the building.

The former church has 359sq m of commercial accommodation office space, 12 car bays and additional storage on a 610sq m site. The building has polished concrete, red brick, high ceilings and abundant natural lighting.

The property is leased by Innerspace Seatings and Systems which is moving out early next year and relocating to a new home on Brisbane’s southside. There is also a stand-alone coffee shop and courtyard in front of the building.

Mr Daffy said Silverstone was looking for a new tenant.

“I think it will suit creative design or IT companies who want a funky workspace that’s different and that reflects their creativity,” he said.

Mr Collins said the campaign, in conjunction with Ray White’s Matt Lancashire who focused on the residential part of the building, attracted more than 100 inquiries.

“This truly is a quality property which holds a great deal of appeal on so many fronts with its Wesleyan theme original design complimented by leading edge improvements by James Russell Architects,” he said..

“Brookes St is in an extremely tightly held and highly desired area in where people feel confident investing.”
