When Yujin Song emigrated from South Korea with her young family a decade ago, she dreamt of establishing a successful restaurant chain.

Up until early this year, that dream was well on track to becoming a reality with the family owning three successful eateries in Brisbane’s CBD - The Journey, Panda and Charmy.

But this week Ms Song was forced to put one of those eateries into liquidation after making the difficult decision to close The Journey in Charlotte St earlier this year.

Panda, operated by her husband, and Charmy continue to operate.

Thyge Trafford Jones, of Mackay Goodwin, has been appointed liquidator of Ms Song’s

company Park’s Family International, which traded as The Journey Korean Restaurant. Mr Jones, was not available for comment.

Ms Song told The Courier-Mail that the COVID-19 shutdown had a big impact on the restaurant trade in the CBD with many people working from home.

“A lot of our customers were Korean students or tourists who can’t come with the borders closed.” she said. “I feel very bad about the business.”

The Journey, now shut, was a popular destination for Korean students before COVID.

The Journey had operated for nine years serving a variety of authentic Korean dishes including bibimbap rice bowl and tangsuyuk sweet and sour pork.

Ms Song said her other business, Charmy, was continuing to operate and she hoped trading conditions would soon improve.

Brahmastra Pty Ltd, trading as Communal Bar and Eat House, has collapsed into liquidation owing creditors more than $750,000.

The eatery, located on Brisbane Square across from Treasury Casino, was understood to have been hit hard when COVID-19 shut offices and left the CBD almost empty.
