PLANS have been submitted for a new microbrewery in Brisbane’s northwest, where the owner says there is opportunity to hop into an untapped market.
Flat Lizard Brewing, founded by three brothers-in-law and a friend, wants to turn a rundown industrial building on Harvton St Stafford into a combined bar and brewery for ciders and beers.

The facility, which came after three years of searching and planning, hopes to open later this year if given the tick of approval by Brisbane City Council.
Director Dan Kendrick, who has been making beer at home as a hobby for 30 years, said the location would hopefully fill a gap in Brisbane’s northwest.
“People on the northwest side of town, it’s a pretty long haul into the city,” said Mr Kendrick, who previously worked as a geologist.
“To have a nice place where you can socialise … in our part of town would be very welcome,” he said.
“We want to make it a good place for families to come and relax.”
He said the industrial area in Stafford was rapidly gentrifying and made it the perfect spot for a new brewery.
Mr Kendrick said he felt inspired to turn his passion into a career by other independent breweries that had popped up around the city.
“It’s great that Brisbane has got a vibrant craft beer scene,” he said.
Mr Kendrick said Flat Lizard would source its barley from Gympie, which would be malted on-site.
Classic German styles, craft lagers, IPA and pilsners were all on the menu, as were ciders.
The project would be self-financed by Flat Lizard’s four co-founders.
