Australian dollar soars above 93 US cents

THE Australian dollar has rallied above 93 US cents after a sharp sell-off in the greenback.

THE Australian dollar has rallied above 93 US cents after a sharp sell-off in the greenback.

At 0630 AEST on Wednesday, the local currency was trading at 93.55 US cents, up from 92.94 cents on Tuesday.

The US dollar fell to a six-month low overnight, which saw the Australian dollar reach a two-week high of 93.69 US cents.

The local currency was also boosted on Tuesday by the Reserve Bank's statement from its monthly board meeting, in which it was more optimistic about unemployment and less concerned about the high Australian dollar.
