THE Australian dollar is almost level as the US dollar eases back from its four-year highs against the yen.

At 0630 AEST on Tuesday, the local currency was trading at 87.17 US cents, slightly down from 87.19 cents on Monday.

The greenback has been rallying against all the major currencies in September on speculation the US Federal Reserve might raise its interest rate next year.
