Welcome to the Trading Day blog for Friday, March 28. The ASX 200 index closed up 0.2 per cent at 7982 points with gold miners and consumer stocks leading gains. 

On Wall Street, the S&P and Dow Jones indexes closed 0.3 per cent lower, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq index shed 0.5 per cent.

Cryptocurrency giant bitcoin is above $US87,000.

The Aussie dollar is trading around US62.94c.
