Liquidated Queensland construction company’s name lives on

A Queensland construction company has gone into liquidation despite the best efforts of investors to bail it out.

A Sunshine Coast construction company went into voluntary liquidation last week but its name lives on.

Ayla Constructions Pty Ltd, at Buderim, had debts closing in on a million dollars when the liquidator Jason Cronan, director of SV Partners Sunshine Coast, was appointed.

The director Mark Deighton, who suffered personal issues, had his licence cancelled by the building watchdog Queensland Building and Construction Commission in May.

A new company, Ayla Constructions (Qld) Pty Ltd, operating under the directorship of Andrew Clingeleffer and the building licence of Joe Thomsen, has in essence continued the brand at the same address in Burnett St.

Mr Cronan said all outstanding jobs were completed by Alya Constructions Pty Ltd and employees were paid.

A group of private investors had tried to bail out Ayla Constructions, but it failed to materialise, he said.

“Some local businessmen tried to help him out … and private investors had put in about $500,000 to pay back debt to help the company get out of a pickle,” Mr Cronan said.

“It was their intention, I am told, to try and pay all the debts out, but unfortunately they were unable to.

“It was the economic climate, the weather, a lack of sales and my understanding was they were trying to pay everyone out and when they couldn’t do that they were looking at a restructure.”

The Ayla Constructions (Qld) website states its history was built on Mr Deighton’s honest, down-to-earth nature, high standards and excellent rapport with clients and trades alike.

“Mark and the team at Ayla Constructions the trusted builder of choice for many new home builds and renovations,” the website states.

Mr Thomsen and the QBCC were contacted for comment.
