Fortitude Valley’s burger, rooftop bar company in the hands of liquidator

It rode the wave of our burger obsession, but the company responsible for opening a hip Brisbane burger eatery and ritzy rooftop bar has been ordered into liquidation.

A POPULAR Brisbane burger and rooftop bar company has been put in liquidation several months after the venture was closed.

Archie’s Burgers, which originally opened as Chur Burger in Fortitude Valley in 2014, was a part of the nation’s gourmet burger obsession.

Five storeys above it rooftop bar, Up On Constance, promised an eye-catching setting with stunning views of the city.

Both the rooftop bar and Archie’s Burgers sites were closed earlier this year.

Last week Valley Morris Pty Ltd, trading as Chur @ Constance and Up @ Constance, was ordered into liquidation and David Hambleton of Rodgers Reidy was appointed liquidator.

Despite the trading name, Valley Morris Pty Ltd was not operating as Chur at the time of liquidation.

The Courier-Mail understands the license to operate under the Chur brand had been revoked, and the company was trading as Archie’s burgers.

Chur Burger became a popular eatery when it was launched by Warren Turnbull in Sydney’s Surry Hills district in 2013.

The opening prompted other burger outlets to sprout across the nation.

Valley Morris Pty Ltd launched the Brisbane store, but its license was later revoked and it opened Archie’s Burgers at the same location.

In August Rockpool Dining Group closed its Burger Project store after opening it in February 2017.

Prominent chef Neil Perry described as a “saturated” Brisbane burger market.

According to its website Chur Burger operates three eateries across Sydney and one in Melbourne.
