Urgent recall of household item sold at Big W, JB Hi-Fi and Officeworks

A faulty product sold nationally at three major retailers, including Big W, has been urgently recalled over fears using it could be deadly.

Three major retailers are urgently recalling a common household item for fear of electrocution, serious injury or death by using it.

Consumers are urged to return the white coloured 3 metre extension lead from Jackson, model PEXT3M, rated 240V 10A 2400W.

The extension lead was available for sale from July 6, 2022, to September 9, 2022, at JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks and Big W stores all over Australia.

Identification number of the extension cord is not easily visible.

The active and neutral connections are reversed on the extension lead socket outlet and can cause parts of the appliance that is plugged into the extension lead to remain live, even if it is switched off.

The lead remaining alive poses a risk of electric shock, which can cause serious injury or death.

The lead can be identified by the codes on the plug.

The model number PEXT3M is not explicitly stated on the cord and users are urged to check for the markings on the socket (LA023A), plug (LA020E), and cord (SAA170791EA) to identify the affected product together with the batch code (P011872).

The socket also has a distinct number.

Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the product and return it to the place of purchase for a replacement or refund.
