Qantas launches international sale: Airline slashes fares to Asia, US, Europe during school holidays

The Flying Kangaroo has slashed prices on 350,000 seats, in a move set to delight budget-conscious families, as Australia’s airline wars continue to ramp up.

Qantas has dropped prices on 350,000 international seats, with return fares starting from just $499, as Australia’s airline wars continue to ramp up.

In a move set to delight budget-conscious families, the sale – running from July 2025 to May 2026 – includes multiple Australian school holiday periods.

For one week only, customers can snag discounted flights on more than 30 routes across Asia, the Americas, the UK, Africa, and the Pacific.

This latest move comes amid the Flying Kangaroo’s escalating price battle with rivals Virgin Australia and Air New Zealand.

Qantas recently closed its Jetstar Asia business, redeploying those planes to boost its domestic fight against Virgin Australia.

Meanwhile, Virgin’s partnership with Qatar Airways has ramped up competition on routes from Australia to Europe.

The Qantas sale features sought-after destinations including Los Angeles, Dallas, Hong Kong, Tokyo, London, Singapore, and the perennially popular Bali.

Economy return fares kick off at just $499 from Melbourne to Christchurch.

Other standout deals include Sydney to Tokyo for $949 return and Brisbane to Los Angeles for $1099 return.

Qantas said the timing of the discounted fares coincides with international events and festivals including the 70th anniversary of Disneyland and the Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival.

As an added incentive, Qantas Frequent Flyers can earn up to 50,000 bonus points when booking with Qantas Hotels and Holidays by August 4.

Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace said the availability of discounted flights during school holidays was a huge bonus.

“We know how much our customers love our international sales, and we’re excited to be offering some fantastic deals across almost our entire international network,” he said.

“What makes this sale special is the availability during school holidays, which is something we know families really value. Whether you’re looking for a tropical escape to Bali, exploring Los Angeles and Dallas or experiencing the culture in Hong Kong, there’s something here for everyone.”

Becky Ip, deputy executive director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, encouraged travellers to explore Hong Kong’s “unique blend of cultural heritage, world-class events, and modern attractions”.

“From internationally renowned events such as the Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival in October and vibrant Chinese New Year celebrations in February, to breathtaking outdoor experiences like the stunning hiking trails of Dragon’s Back and the serene beauty of Lantau Island, the city continues to be a compelling and exciting destination,” she said.

“With these special fares now available, it’s an ideal time to plan a visit.”

Sale fares are for dates between July 2025 and May 2026 and are available until 11.59pm (AEST) on Monday, August 4, unless sold out prior.
