An Australian yoga instructor has recalled his horror after a masked man broke into his Bali resort home while he slept in a terrifying home invasion that left him seriously injured.

Joe, 39, was asleep with his girlfriend at their resort home in the coastal village of Canggu when he was woken by a masked intruder entering the room about 2am on October 17.

The Victorian man jumped from his bed and grabbed the blade of a large knife the intruder was carrying, wrestling it off him before his attacker struck him with a picture frame.

The intruder then fled the home with a bag containing phones, a laptop, passport, and wallet, with the instructor left stumbling onto the street to try and find medical help.

“I called the police and ambulance many times and no one answered the call so I had to get help from mini mart shop keepers to take me to the emergency hospital,” Joe said.

The yoga teacher said he was told he needed four intricate surgeries which he opted to do in Australia and not Indonesia after his sister flew over with emergency travel documents.

Since arriving at Perth’s Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital, Joe said he had undergone four surgeries for his broken hand, two cut tendons in his middle finger, and nerve damage.

“I was discharged just yesterday (Sunday) and required three months of hand therapy and medication like antibiotics, anti- inflammatory, anti-nerve pain, and codeine,” he said.

“Police made a report but they’ve been hopeless. I have CCTV of the thief and his fingerprints and (have) given authorities serial numbers of everything stolen, but nothing.”

Joe runs his own business as a yoga instructor and spent the past seven years splitting his time between Bali and Australia, but is unlikely to return soon while in rehabilitation.

He has since launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the cost of his surgeries and emergency documents, with the campaign so far raising a whopping $4,150.
