72-hr Qantas sale: How Aussies can get cheap flights

Australians looking to spend less on upcoming family holidays can save hundreds of dollars on domestic travel thanks to a slew of sales at the moment.

Qantas has announced a 72-hour domestic flights sale, with fares from as little as $109 one-way, while airfare aggregator service Webjet has flights departing from Sydney from as little as $70, depending on the destination and dates.

More than one million seats across more than 60 routes have been discounted as part of Qantas’ sale, including Launceston to Melbourne from $109 one-way, Brisbane to Whitsunday Cost from $115 and Melbourne to the Gold Coast from $129.

Flights from Launceston to Melbourne can cost $147 or more one-way, and flights from Melbourne to the Gold Coast can cost $175 or more one-way, depending on the date.

The sale fares are for travel from Christmas Eve this year to September 18 next year, with some dates across Christmas and other school holidays included.

Other popular routes on sale include Brisbane to Sydney from $145, Melbourne to Perth from $309, Brisbane to Cairns from $169 and Gold Coast to Sydney from $129.

The sale fares are available until 11.59pm AEDT November 14, 2024, unless sold out prior.

Qantas’ announcement comes after Flight Centre announced its Big Red Sale, offering up to 50 per cent off holidays, cruises and tours, as well as savings on flights.

Some of the domestic deals on offer include Jetstar flights from Melbourne to Adelaide from $79 one way, Sydney to Brisbane from $87 and Melbourne to Hobart from $81, for travel between January 20 to March 31 next year.

There is also a five-night family fun package to stay at Daydream Island from $2699, which boasts that it included $1135 of bonus value or save up to $665 on a five-night family package in Cairns and snorkel Green Island from $1959.

Alternatively, get up to 30 per cent off a four-night Disney Magic cruise from Melbourne, priced from $1195 per person.

Flight Centre’s sale ends November 13.

Meanwhile, Webjet also has a sale on domestic flights, with prices starting from $70 one-way ex-Sydney or from $66 ex-Melbourne on Jetstar and Virgin.
