Black Friday sales 2019: eBay launches early 20% off deal

eBay has revealed a list of items made available for shoppers from today ahead of the mayhem of Black Friday later this week.

The etiquette of queuing

Bargain hunters will get an early crack at Black Friday discounts through eBay with the online retailer revealing a range of electronics and toys will be marked down by 20 per cent from midday today.

The site has extended the shopping mayhem throughout the week, with new offers released each midday leading into Friday.

A black aluminium Fitbit watch is marked down from $256.88 to $149, while a range of toys will also be on sale at eBay.com.au to allow the Christmas to-do lists to be done from home.

These include Star War Millennium Falcon Lego ($200), Furreal Disney Simbah from Lion King (76) and a Disney Frozen 2 singing Elsa doll ($39.30).

The online retailer says 30 per cent of punters will buy the majority of their gifts during the pre-Christmas sales.

“Black Friday is the perfect time to get a head start on Christmas, and now we’re giving shoppers even more time to snap up a bargain,” eBay Australia’s Sophie Onikul said.

“We’re proud to offer unbeatable range and value all year round, and with 90 per cent of what’s sold on eBay brand new, it’s a one-stop shop for all your festive needs.

“These deals are hot property and won’t hang around, so get in quick.”

WHEN IS BLACK FRIDAY

Black Friday falls on the Friday after the Thanksgiving holiday in the US, which means this year the sales start on November 29.

Cyber Monday is the Monday after Black Friday, this year falling on December 2.

DO AUSTRALIANS SPEND BIG?

Despite a host of bargains on homewares and tech products, only one in five Australians (21 per cent) took part in Black Friday last year, according to a survey conducted by comparison site Finder.

The research shows four million Australians were planning to shop that day (21 per cent), far less than the 174 million Americans (70 per cent) who were expected to take part.

And, remarkably, only 25 per cent of us even know what Black Friday is.

“These days you should never be paying full price for anything,” Finder money expert Bessie Hassan said.

“The best way to save money is to shop strategically. Make a list of the things you need and hold off purchasing until a sale – there are so many these days you won’t have to wait long.

“When it comes to Black Friday, it pays to do your research. Different stores will offer different discounts. You might find a pair of shoes you like with 20 per cent off, but they might be discounted more heavily at another store.

“Finder always has a roundup of some of the best deals in the country, so check out the line-up before you start spending.”
