ALDI Australia‘s cringeworthy new social media campaign
WE’VE all seen how quickly social media campaigns can turn disastrous, but it seems ALDI Australia hasn’t gotten the message. This will make you cringe.

IT GOES without saying that the internet is an awful, awful place.
But apparently, some brands still haven’t gotten the message.
ALDI Australia is the latest company to fall victim to the execution of a truly terrible social media campaign.
A quick note to management: anything involving a ‘fill in the blanks’ is NEVER a good idea. Especially when it screams “Throw vague sexual connotations at me!” Seriously, have you BEEN on Twitter? Have you SEEN how vicious we all are?
Predictably, the cringeworthy campaign has already produced a number of unforgiving responses.

And those are the some of the most polite responses.
Some users have even gone as far as to suggest the disastrous campaign was a deliberate strategy.
Meanwhile, others have leapt to their defence. Well um, sort of.

It seems some companies are still yet to realise that putting your good faith in the internet for a marketing campaign will inevitably produce godawful results.
Who could forget the Victorian Taxi Association’s #yourtaxis campaign, which rapidly went downhill as people flooded the hashtag with tales of rude, abusive drivers?
Then there was that time Woolworths attempted to cash in on the spirit of Anzac Day, by branding themselves over photos of former soldiers with an accompanying meme generator.
And Susan Boyle. Good old Susan Boyle. Let us never forget that time she promoted her new album by encouraging everyone to use the hashtag #susanalbumparty. Hopefully Sue showered first.
ALDI Australia is yet to address the campaign on Twitter, but we have a feeling one unlucky social media intern is about to get fired.
