An unholy row that led to an ‘altercation’ and high-ranking investigation has erupted at Brisbane’s Tattersall’s Club over classical music and ‘hidden cameras’.

A move by Tattersall’s Club to liven up the place with a bit of classical music has resulted in an unholy row in the hallowed halls of the 139-year-old institution.

City Beat spies tell us the club recently engaged a young law student, the son of a prominent lawyer, to play classical music each Friday in the members’ dining room — Tatts’ hallowed ground for dissecting local and national gossip.

But one senior member was not happy, complaining to a manager about what he regarded as “loud and intrusive music”.

When the manager attempted to justify the musical interlude the senior member apparently told him he was ‘talking bullshit’.

Fury erupted at the Tattersall’s Club over classical music.

We hear the dispute was quickly escalated to Tatts hierarchy with the senior member facing a claim he had breached the club’s code of conduct.

This triggered an investigation involving club officials.

We hear nothing ever came of the investigation and the member was cleared of any wrongdoing.

But as part of the investigation security camera footage was downloaded of the alleged altercation.

This sparked further consternation from some members about “hidden surveillance cameras”.

The club has declined to comment on the matter, which on the face of it appears to be a storm in a teacup.

As to the cameras, we hear they have been in the club for years and are well known to most members.

We also hear they are a condition of the club having a liquor licence.
