The search for a new commissioner to lead Queensland’s building regulator continues a month after Anissa Levy was told her services were no longer required.
A new government – as they do – always cuts a swathe through the top jobs in the public service and regulatory authorities and Queensland Building and Construction Commission is no exception.
Levy (illustrated) was officially told at the start of the year that her contract would not be renewed.
The former CEO of Water Infrastructure NSW was also in 2020 removed by the then Berejiklian Coalition government as co-ordinator-general of its Environment, Energy and Science unit knows the drill and is staying to assist with the transition.
With the Productivity Commission conducting a review of the building and construction industry and the Crisafulli government saying they wanted to make the QBCC more “customer friendly” be prepared for some more upheaval at QBCC’s West End headquarters.
For the record Levy told staff she was disappointed to be leaving but with an impressive resume we’re sure she will resurface somewhere else.
As for the new commissioner the job is a fine balancing act having to keep both homeowners and builders happy while at the same time a new government will be putting their two cents worth in as well.
There are plenty of qualified people around and on wag told us that it would help if they leaned towards the conservative side of politics.
All we can say is best of luck.
Appointment
Meanwhile another former commissioner – police that is – Katarina Carroll has been appointed as a director to the Board of LifeFlight Commercial.
LifeFlight Commercial launched in 2018 as a profit-for-purpose entity to channel much needed funds into LifeFlight’s core mission of saving lives.
Carroll brings significant operational experience in emergency management and has led both the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services sand the Queensland Police Service’s response through multiple natural disasters – most significantly the unprecedented global pandemic Covid-19.
Carroll said the decision to join LifeFlight came as the organisation focuses on new strategic contracts with government, counter-disaster agencies and Defence.
“LifeFlight is a proven leader in aeromedicine and I look forward to providing support to the Board as opportunities arise and we further develop partnerships, both in Australia and abroad,” she said.
