Brisbane venue executive Peter Loxton (illustrated) has joined the likes of Taylor Swift, Drake and Mariah Carey after being included in the world’s most recognised entertainment rankings. The chief operating officer - commercial for Harvey Lister’s ASM Global Asia Pacific was this week named in the 2023 Billboard International Power Players List, an annual ranking that recognises the most influential executives in the music industry from around the world. Loxton’s work with ASM Global Asia Pacific has led to the venue management company’s development of Brisbane Live, the 18,000-seat multipurpose arena named as a fully funded 2032 Olympic site to host swimming and potentially basketball finals and that will also serve as a state-of-the-art entertainment and sporting venue.
Loxton, whose local venue portfolio includes the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and Suncorp Stadium, also has been working on new arena projects in Ghana, Hong Kong and the Middle East. Brisbane-born Loxton ran his own venue management business before joining Lister about 15 years ago and has never looked back.
Of all the acts Loxton has been responsible for over the years his favourite is Paul McCartney.
“I had tickets for his concert in Brisbane back in 2001 but it was cancelled,” Loxton says. “Thankfully he was able to return in 2018 and maybe we will see him again some day.”
Off the tee
Dyno Nobel’s annual Porgera Memorial Golf Day this Friday will include a guest appearance by former rugby league superstar Michael Hancock.
The annual event at Gailes Golf Club remembers the tragic 1994 mine explosion at the Dyno Nobel mine in Porgera, Papua New Guinea that killed 11 employees, two of whom were on secondment from the company’s Helidon plant in south-east Queensland
Helidon site manager Paddy Wiggall says the day run since 2018 has become an annual tradition allowing participansts to enjoy a game of golf while also “reflecting and remembering” the tragedy. Money raised from the day will go to the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal and domestic violence charity RizeUp Australia.
The Helidon manufacturing site employs 100 people from the Toowoomba and Locker Valley region and its employees produce non-electrical and electronic detonator assemblies for explosives products that are vital to Australia’s resources sector.
“The day brings together the local community in and around Helidon and the Lockyer Valley to raise funds for charities that are close to our hearts,” Wiggall says.

The arrangement also will see Vaxa Bureau committed to gifting the organisation with a percentage of its annual profits to support the charity’s valuable work.
