Archerfield Airport Corporation and US aerospace manufacturer Wisk Aero have signed a landmark Strategic Alliance Agreement to support eVTOL air taxis at Queensland’s largest general and corporate aviation hub.
For those who don't know eVTOL is another name for electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft which by all accounts are set to revolutionise aviation.
Under the Strategic Alliance Agreement, AAC and Boeing backed Wisk Aero will embark on a variety of projects aimed at developing the advanced air mobility system ecosystem and operations at Archerfield Airport.
Kickstarting this relationship is an electrification project that will determine the electrical and infrastructure requirements and facilities needed to support eVTOL operations at Archerfield Airport.
AAC executive general manager Rod Parry says the airport is uniquely well-placed to service the emerging advanced air mobility sector.
“By the time of Brisbane’s Olympic Games, eVTOLs will likely be providing essential emissions-free transport services from vertiports around the region, keeping traffic off our busy roads and ensuring the efficient transfer of personnel to key sites throughout South-East Queensland," he says.

Noosa’s streets are a little quieter now after the conclusion of another typically lively Noosa mining conference.
Hosted by Phil Dickinson’s Equity Events, the mining industry’s favourite small cap east coast event welcomed more than 1500 attendees over the three-day event through to November 15, including 55 ASX-listed energy and mining companies.
Among the Queensland attendees, Stu Crow of lithium miner Lake Resources was keen to promote his successful deal to raise $13m by selling some non-core assets, while Diatreme Resources’ Neil McIntyre highlighted how the solar boom was powering demand for his Queensland silica sand projects.
Keynote speaker, Austex’s Rob Murdoch noted that ASX resources companies had enjoyed a 15 per cent average share price increase over the previous eight months, with much of the gains enjoyed by gold, silver and tin miners.
Asked his prediction for the best commodity to invest in next year, Canaccord Genuity’s Reg Spencer tipped gold for the second straight year, thanks to global monetary easing, more central bank buying and limited mine supply growth.
It all made for another big celebration over beer and canapes at Noosa Surf Club on Thursday evening, with the precious metals bulls particularly upbeat on the prospects of another golden year.
