Bunnings names list of Brisbane, Ipswich stores where it is asking customers to wear face masks

Hardware giant Bunnings has this morning expanded the list of southeast Queensland stores where its staff must wear face masks and customers are being strongly urged to do the same. SEE THE LIST

When will we be able to travel again?

Bunnings has expanded the list of shops in Brisbane and four other key areas where it is “strongly recommending” customers wear face masks.

The hardware giant this morning said it was mandatory for staff in 28 stores across hot spot areas in Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Ipswich, Logan and Redlands to wear masks and it is asking customers to do the same following the recent outbreak in south east Queensland.

Wooloworths meanwhile has said it is now “encouraging” customers and staff to wear masks in all its stores based in the local government areas named as new hot spots but it was not mandatory.

Ipswich’s Riverlink Shopping Centre, named as one of the places visited by someone who has tested positive to COVID-19, has not made the wearing of face masks mandatory.

“We know the Chief Health Officer Jeanette Young has not mandated mask wearing but she’s encouraged people to wear them and so do we,” said centre manager Alexa Arnott.

Scentre Group, which runs Westfield Shopping Centres, has been asked what its position is for staff and customers at its stores, some of which have been named as places where COVID—19 cases have visited.

Bunnings general manager of operations Ryan Baker said it was an additional step to help protect against any community transmission in the areas.

“From today we’re taking the precautionary step of requiring all our team members working across Bunnings locations in restricted areas of greater Brisbane, Ipswich and surrounds to wear face masks,” he said.

“We’re also strongly recommending customers join us in wearing face masks or coverings too when they visit these stores and we’ll be providing customers with the option to purchase a mask as they enter should they wish to do so.

“While we’re not mandating customer use of face masks in these locations, we appreciate customers getting on board to help protect everyone.

“Our team are already doing a great job working in a COVID-safe way and this is an additional step we can take to help keep everyone safe and help protect against any community transmission in these areas.”
