ANATARA has given itself more breathing room in a deadline for selling a diarrhoea treatment for pigs, while talking up potential markets for other beasts including calves.

At Wednesday’s annual general meeting, Brisbane-based Anatara, whose product is derived from pineapples, said its product could be on Australian markets by 2017’s first quarter.

That’s further than recent guidance of late 2016, and initial prospectus plans of mid-2016.

But Anatara chief executive Paul Schober still hoped for a potential launch earlier than 2017, depending on how long the treatment took to pass registration hurdles.

The original mid-2016 date was deferred some months as Anatara said it looked to expand into additional European and US markets. The idea was likened to getting overall faster access to a greater market, despite an initial Australian delay.

The AGM went smoothly, with chairman Mel Bridges pointing to a rising share price — it was as low as 28c last year but closed on Wednesday down 3.5c at 90.5c. Anatara has conducted trials which the market generally received well.

Anatara chief scientific officer Tracey Mynott said the organisation had early proof of concept data for treating calves. She later stressed the initial focus was on pigs.

The company also raised $9 million in August and Dr Schober said the cash reserve helped in negotiating partnership deals.
