DEVELOPERS have briefed Tourism Minister Kate Jones about their plan to build Queensland’s largest family “eco-leisure resort’’ on the Sunshine Coast.

Sanad Capital Pty Ltd CEO Bradley Sutherland said he and his architect Ken Down and planner Cameron Adams had enjoyed a positive meeting with the Minister, who had shown keen interest in the project.

Sanad will lodge a development application with Sunshine Coast Regional Council “within weeks’’ for stage one of a $450 million water-themed tourist resort on the Steve Irwin Way at Glenview.

Mr Sutherland said the first stage of the Actventure project would be a $37m accommodation element.

“Sanad Capital are in advanced discussions with key Australian operators for the rollout of the family-friendly Actventure Resort,’’ he said.

“This is currently being designed and is earmarked to include a mix of 250 eco-villas and glamping tents, family restaurant, healthy café, spa, next generation waterpark, adult and family pools, slides, and sports activities.

“The resort will make a significant contribution to the Sunshine Coast’s economy, adding much-needed rooms to the accommodation pool and providing hundreds of new jobs.’’

Mr Sutherland said that, once approved, construction could begin as soon as mid-next year and the resort could open within 18 months.

He said the location was excellent, given the proximity to other tourism attractions, including Australia Zoo, Big Kart Track, Aussie World and Sea Life Mooloolaba.

“With the new road upgrades (M1 Bruce Highway), infrastructure works and the game-changing new international airport coming on board in just 24 months, the timing is perfect.

“We decided to implement much-needed accommodation offerings as part of the first stage of Actventure, to meet the growing holiday market demand and current trend.”

When it is fully completed, Actventure will combine a world-class water park, wave pool, great lawn for major events, concerts and community activities, and an outdoor adventure park with activities including kayaking, bungee jumping, zip lines, net climbing, flyboarding, segways and electric skateboard hire, stand-up paddle boarding and football.
