Woman dead after collision on Hume Highway

The woman had been driving a hatchback when the car collided with a ute on the major motorway.

A woman has died after her car collided with a ute north of Goulburn.

She had been driving a hatchback northbound towards Sydney when she collided with a ute travelling in the same direction.

Emergency services rushed to Boxers Creek – 10km northeast of Goulburn – about 6.45am.

However, the woman had suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.

Northbound lanes of the Hume Highway are closed off, with traffic banking up on the major transport route between Canberra and Sydney.

The man driving the ute was uninjured and was taken to Goulburn Hospital for mandatory testing.

A contraflow will be put in place between Murrays Flat Road to Boxers Creek Road while the scene is cleared.

Motorists are advised there may be delays.

It comes less than 24 hours after a woman in her 20s was killed on the same road further north just below Sydney.

Police were told a car had swerved to avoid hitting another car on Picton Road causing the car to roll.

The female passenger did not survive.

The drivers of both cars involved were taken to hospital for treatment and mandatory testing.

An investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
