Water police have come to the rescue of two stranded jet skiers, after they let off a distress flare about one kilometre off the coast near Brisbane.
Dramatic footage captured by Queensland Police’s Polair helicopter shows the rescue effort, which took place in Bramble Bay late on Monday afternoon.
Multiple people called emergency services at 5.45pm saying they had seen a distress flare activated by the men about 1km off the coast of Woody Point.
Water police and Polair responded and located the men, whose jet ski had become disabled, and transported them and their supplies, including what appears to be an Esky and fishing gear, to the mainland.
Senior Sergeant David Edden from Brisbane Water Police said using the distress flare had saved the men from being stuck in the water for any longer than they had to be.
“The correct use of safety equipment can be the difference between a safe trip and tragedy,” Sgt Edden said.
“In this case, the distress signal alerted authorities and police were able to work quickly to rescue the men and their vessel before dark.”
