Shocking footage has emerged showing the moment two acrobats fell during a performance in front of a full crowd.
The incident unfolded at the Circus Rio show at Helensvale Westfield on Wednesday night.
In the video a man and woman, who are both in their 30s, can be seen being lifted into the air before plunging almost three metres.
The pair were rushed to hospital by critical care paramedics to the Gold Coast University Hospital.
The woman suffered back pain while the man experienced shoulder pain.
The Circus Rio Spectacular is a cast of internationally acclaimed, world-class Australian and international performers.
Laura Burgess was at the show and told The Courier-Mail that there were lots of frightened children in the audience who witnessed the accident.
“Lots of kids were shaken by it. There were kids in the audience crying,” she said.
“It happened so fast that it took a moment to realise it wasn’t part of the show … There was a massive yell and bang,” Ms Burgess said.
Circus Rio have been contacted for comment.
