Tragic end to search for paddleboarder as body found

A desperate search for a man last seen paddleboarding in a creek near a family beach has ended with terrible news.

The desperate search for a missing man on the NSW North Coast has come to a tragic end with police discovering a body.

Steve Wood was last seen paddle boarding in a creek leading to Killick Beach in Crescent Head, 65km north of Port Macquarie, at 1pm on Saturday afternoon.

Police began the search after he was unable to be located, with marine area command, surf life savers, state emergency services and polair attending the scene.

The search continued throughout Sunday and Monday as family and police became more and more worried about the 61-year-old’s welfare.

Divers from the Marine Area Command located the body of a man in Ryans Cut Creek at 3.20pm on Monday.

The body has been formally identified as Mr Wood.

A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
