Police have released new details in the case of Thor Morgan, who was allegedly shot in the head while being tracked by a stolen car.
The 25-year-old Queensland man was found at a Coonan St home in Harlaxton at Toowoomba around 2.50am on March 15.
Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker told reporters on Thursday that police were looking for two stolen vehicles linked to the murder.
A grey Mitsubishi ASX Wagon and a white 2015 Honda H-V SUV were both stolen earlier this year.
“A person who was in the vehicle where the shot came from that killed Mr Morgan was in the days prior to the shooting in both these cars,” Sergeant McCusker said.
Police are appealing for anyone with information relating to these cars or the driver to come forward.
“We will continue to conduct inquiries to ensure that the person or persons responsible for shooting Mr Morgan are put before the courts,” Sergeant McCusker said.
“Even if they may have been in the car at the time, now is the time to come forward before we come to see you.”
Officers will also conduct a forensic examination of a grassy area near the shooting site on Thursday.
The area was searched on the day of the shooting, but detectives are returning to ensure they haven’t missed a gun shell casing that may have been discharged in the area.
Mr Morgan was initially taken to Toowoomba Hospital before being transferred to the Princess Alexandra Hospital, where he spent the final two months of his life before dying on May 16.
Police believe Mr Morgan was shot while driving on Ruthven St and attempting to evade a stolen white Ford Ranger dual cab.
CCTV footage released in May showed Mr Morgan’s car being followed by the dual cab moments before the shooting.
The Ford Ranger was reported stolen from a Wilsonton address on March 13 and police believe the gun was fired from inside the car.
It was later found burnt out on Nunkulla Rd.
Three men were charged with allegedly stealing and using the car a week after it was reported stolen.
A 17-year-old boy, 19-year-old Newtown man and 22-year-old Newtown man have all since faced the courts.
Investigators have asked anyone who saw the Ford Ranger in the Felton area between 2am and 5.30am on March 15 to come forward.
The car was bearing the distinctive false number plates of “SCUM”.
Police have also appealed for anyone who saw a stolen 2021 grey Mazda CU9 SUV on McGovern Rd, Felton, travelling towards the area where the destroyed Ford Ranger was found to contact them.
In May, investigators asked the public if anyone picked up and transported a man who was on Pittsworth Felton Rd between 5.30am and 7.30am on the morning of the incident.
The man is believed to be fair-skinned, slight to medium build, with short brown hair and possibly in his 20s.
He was wearing a black jacket, boardshorts and no shoes.
Police have previously said they believe the shooting was targeted and Mr Morgan knew his attackers.
They also believe at least two people were involved.
The three men were charged for their alleged theft and use of the car prior to the shooting.
Police are yet to charge anyone over the shooting.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information should contact Policelink on 131 444.
