Sydney commuters are facing lengthy delays as metro lines were unexpectedly impacted, with hundreds of passengers being held “hostage” as power outages caused chaos.
Frustrated passengers took to Twitter to explain that some had been stuck on the trains for nearly an hour with no airconditioning or lights.
“Our metro has no power and no airflow, you have some people getting real anxious and struggling to breathe, time to call triple-0 maybe,” one person wrote on Twitter on Monday.
Another person said they’d been sitting on the Northwest station for “over an hour” as the power continued to turn on and off and the airconditioning had been cut.
One passenger went as far as calling the debacle like being “held hostage” as she wasn’t allowed to exit the train.
“Can you at least let the passengers on the Norwest train off,” she wrote on Twitter.
“We are right next to the doors. There’s no need to keep us all hostage here. It’s been over an hour.”
Sydney Metro announced on Twitter it was experiencing “increased wait times” on Monday morning.
“Please listen to station announcements and message display boards for the latest information,” the statement read.
“We apologise for any inconvenience.”
Some commuters are reporting they’re now being transferred on to bus services.
More to come.
