Tasmania has set a new record, reporting its highest number of daily Covid-19 infections since the pandemic began.

The state reported 2324 new infections on Tuesday, bringing the total number of active infections to 11,415.

There have also been 72,853 people who have recovered from the virus.

Twenty-two people are hospitalised, with just five of them being treated specifically for Covid-19.

None of those patients are in intensive care.

A man in his late 80s, who was in a residential aged care facility in the state’s north, died while positive.

Health Minister Jeremy Rockliff urged residents due for their booster doses to get it.

“More than 65.57 per cent of Tasmanians have now received their booster dose, and we want to see even more people turn up and boost their protection against Covid, particularly before we head into the winter season,” he said.

“The evidence remains clear that the most important thing you can do to protect yourself and your loved ones is to remain up to date with your Covid vaccination.

“Please, don’t forget the important Covid-safe behaviours – wash your hands and sanitise, cover coughs and sneezes and, importantly, stay home and do a test if you’re unwell.”

Health Minister Jeremy Rockliff again urged residents to get their booster jabs if they were eligible to do so.
