Scott Morrison and Barnaby Joyce finally sworn in to parliament

After skipping the first week of parliament in favour of an overseas trip, the former prime minister has finally been spotted.

Former prime minister Scott Morrison and his former deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce have been sworn in to the 47th parliament after both missing the first week.

Last week, Mr Morrison was in Japan to speak at a conservative leaders summit, while Mr Joyce took personal leave after his father died.

Mr Morrison, who was defeated as prime minister at the May 21 poll but retained his seat of Cook, swore an oath on the bible before he shook hands with Liberal leader Peter Dutton and other Coalition MPs.

Mr Morrison’s trip to Japan caused controversy last week after it was revealed he could be paid for attending the Asian Leadership Conference.

While there, he delivered an address on the importance of the Quad in “promoting stability in the Indo-Pacific” and met with Japanese political and business leaders.

“I will be holding a series of meetings with Japanese political and business leaders and will have the opportunity to join other former leaders to express my condolences for the passing of Prime Minister Abe following his assassination,” he said last week.
